Ayurveda is an ancient Indian holistic medical system for de-stressing and rejuvenating your mind and body, balancing your energies and generally enhancing your health and beauty. It is also successfully used for pain relief, for example, lower back pain, muscular aches, etc, and for weight loss through the healing properties of massage.
At Yauvana Spa Cork, we have a fully-qualified Ayurvedic doctor and trained therapists – all from south India, where Ayurveda originated some five thousand years ago.
Adjoining the spa we have a luxurious thermal suite with nine different exotic heat systems, designed to complement the healing properties of Ayurveda. The value of sweating for cleansing, detoxifying and relaxation is a documented accompaniment to Ayurvedic well-being in ancient Sanskrit texts dating back to 500 B.C. Today, you can enjoy them in the salubrious surroundings of Yauvana Spa.
The Health Club features a Kinesis studio, a 18-metre heated pool, a fully-equipped gymnasium, sauna, steam room and the ever-popular outdoor hydro pool and hot tub where you can sit in cascading showers of hot water even on a brisk Irish winter’s day!

Our Ayurvedic doctor uses various diagnostic methods, including a study of your physical and mental characteristics and your pulses to determine your natural mind/body constitution or dosha. Afterwards the doctor will prescribe a specific treatment programme for you and offer you guidelines for your daily routine, activities and nutrition.

Marma Abhyanga
Massage including an emphasis on pressure points (marma) to invigorate the body, to tone and relieve general muscular aches and to stimulate the circulation. An energising yet relaxing all-round treatment which creates a feeling of greater relaxation and well-being.

Kalari Abhyanga
Based on the ancient martial arts of Kerala called Kalari, this is a traditional stretching massage for stimulating vital points and includes sports massage techniques for easing muscular tension and arthritic pain as well as re-energising the body, soothing the mind and creating a sense of inner calm.

Udvartana
A short oil massage, followed by a de-toxing and exfoliating herbal powder massage for weight loss and associated issues, such as cellulite, lymphatic drainage and breaking up the fatty tissues under the skin. Finish off this treatment relaxing in the steam room for 10 to 15 minutes.

Pizhichil
The Yauvana luxury massage, classified in India since time began as a “royal” treatment. The unforgettable experience of a generous stream of warm, specially-prepared medicated oil applied to the body by two therapists using specific strokes in synchrony. The combination of oil and heat ensures that the medicinal oils are carried deep into the tissues giving benefits that strengthen the immune system, give relief from muscular tension and ease pains in the joints. It has enlivening and fortifying effects to combat long-term exhaustion with anti-ageing properties and special softening and nourishing effects on the skin.

Podikizhi
Potent herbal formulations, wrapped in small cloth bags, are soaked in warm herbal oil and massaged on the entire body. An invigorating, anti-inflammatory massage for the relief of rheumatoid arthritis aches, general body pains, muscular tensions and pain in the back, neck and shoulders.

Herbal rice wrapped in small cloth bags soaked in warm oils, milk and special herbal decoctions for tissue nourishment and the best anti-oxidation technique suitable for muscular weakness.

Good for the relief of lower back pain (neck or knee pain), this is a localised treatment made by the application of therapeutic pain-relieving oil on the affected area.

Shirodhara
A mind de-stressing treatment which uses warm medicated oil flowing across the forehead in a special rhythm to relax the nervous system. It aids depression and releases deep anxieties as well as contributing to overall calmness and mental relaxation. Good for emotional and sleep-related problems in addition to general rejuvenation.

Himalayan Mud Body Treatment with Steam
A threefold process starting with an oil massage to soften the skin and enhance blood circulation. This is followed by herbal powder exfoliation to remove the dead cells and to improve lymphatic drainage. Then warm rich formulae of Himalayan mud, herbal powders, honey and milk are applied to the skin for detoxifying and energising, toning and contouring. The cleansing process is enhanced by a visit to the steam room to extract toxins from the skin and body. The process is continued by the use of wet heat to remove the wrap and finally a revitalising, refreshing shower. Good for hormone-related problems, de-toxification and for softening the skin.
